Silk Restaurant And Lounge Information

Tucked into the lively stretch of Shaw at Silk Restaurant And Lounge, Silk Restaurant And Lounge offers the kind of dining experience that blends comfort with a touch of nightlife energy. From the moment you step inside, there’s a noticeable shift from the busy street outside to a dimly lit, stylish interior where music hums in the background and the atmosphere leans more lounge than traditional sit-down spot.

The menu leans heavily into Ethiopian and Eritrean influences, with familiar staples like injera-based platters taking center stage. One of the standout aspects is the communal style of eating, which makes it ideal for groups or anyone looking to share and sample a variety of dishes. The kitfo and doro wat are often highlighted in reviews, and after trying them, it’s easy to see why-rich spices, slow-cooked depth, and that unmistakable tang from the injera create a layered, satisfying bite. For those less familiar with the cuisine, the staff tends to be helpful in explaining the menu and suggesting combinations that work well together.

Service here can feel a bit relaxed, especially during peak hours, but it matches the overall vibe of the place. It’s not rushed dining; it’s more about settling in, enjoying the food, and letting the evening unfold. On weekends, the restaurant gradually shifts into more of a lounge setting, with DJs and a more social crowd filling the space. That dual identity-restaurant early on, nightlife spot later-gives Silk a unique edge compared to other places in the area.

The location itself is a big plus, right in one of DC’s most vibrant neighborhoods, making it a convenient stop whether you’re bar-hopping or just exploring the city’s food scene. While it may not have the polish of some high-end establishments, it makes up for it with character, flavor, and a sense of authenticity that keeps people coming back.

Pricing is fairly reasonable considering the portion sizes and central location, though drinks can add up quickly if you’re settling in for the night. Still, for anyone looking to experience bold East African flavors in a setting that feels both relaxed and lively, Silk manages to strike a balance that’s hard to find elsewhere in Washington, DC.

What People's Say About Place

I was looking for a good weekend brunch spot with Hip Hop vibes, and I found it! The food was great - you've gotta try the oxtail rolls and the chicken and waffles. My server was great and the music was on point. We'll definitely be back.

I tried Curry & Pie Indian Restaurent food down in Washington DC Georgetown and my whole family loved it. I’ve been there almost 10 times every time I go down to DC very welcoming atmosphere once you stepped in service is great. The servers are very friendly. Anthony is with full of knowledge about the food no doubt, and he does remember his customer every time you’re there.

Outstanding Food, Drinks, Music, and Hookah! Exceptional Service! One Of My Fav Places in DC Area For Sure & I Highly Recommend! I had an excellent dining experience here. The service was warm, attentive, and made the meal feel special from start to finish. The food was truly memorable — the lamb chops were perfectly cooked and full of flavor, and the mac and cheese was rich, creamy, and comforting. Everything else I ordered was just as impressive, with great presentation and even better taste. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious food and top-notch service. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Upon entry the service was not attentive. Finally when the young lady came over , and the seating was fine. The drinks are in a very small plastic cup, not worth the cost. The food however was fresh, tasty, and very flavorful. Ambience was mediocre. The dj was on point. The setting is small, overall the service could be more friendly. We had to request condiments, and remind our waitress several times

Came for my 38th birthday yesterday and it did not disappoint! Food was amazing! I had the lamb chops and fries and my hubby had jerk chicken pasta and he enjoyed. The only thing I would say that I was confused about is the happy hour prices. Our check was different from what the online prices were but my spouse was fine so I let it be. Special s/o to Bianca and Sania (not sure of spelling) but they were friendly and made my birthday a little more special! AWESOME SERVICE LADIES!!

Went for a late night dinner date and had a great time. Food was sooo delicious, they had a DJ, hookah and loved their Long Island drink. Overall we loved this intimate spot.

Morgan was our server. She was amazing! She had a positive attitude and extremely attentive. The food was phenomenal. Please try the lamb chops, cabbage, mac and cheese and the wings. "You will not be disappointed". Hopefully Morgan is there to give you the great server that we had. Thanks Silk. Oh, and whoever was the chef on 02/21, you are the talented

Had a great time at Silk Lounge DC for Monday Night Football! It was my first time there — the atmosphere was lively, the food was excellent, and the overall experience was really enjoyable. Definitely a spot worth checking out
